Brief description of the situation
A 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Lushan county of Ya’an city in south China’s Sichuan Province at 8:02 a.m. Saturday Beijing Time. The epicenter, with a depth of 13 km, was monitored at 30.3 degrees north latitude and 103.0 degrees east longitude. Several aftershocks are reported, with the biggest one at magnitude 5.1. Roads and tele-communication at Lushan County have been blocked.
Yaan city is 120 kilometers from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, with a total of 1.2 million population.
