DMIS: Nepal – Fire : Fire incidents

Brief description of the situation
The fire incidents occurred in different parts of the country since January 2013 however the magnitude of the problem increased rapidly since early March 2013 and caused huge devastation both loss of lives and properties in 19 districts namely Saptari, Siraha, Bara, Routahat, Morang, Sunsari, Parsa, Dang, Bardia and Makawanpur, Sindhuli, Jhapa, Rolpa, Tanahu, Parbat, Bhaktapur, Dhankuta, Okhaldhunga, Taplejung, Sankhuwasava and Banke.

A massive fire incidents happened in various parts of the country having huge devastation both loss of lives and properties. The frequency and intensity of fire incidents are severe compared to past fire out breaks. The southern part of country (Terai Region) is severely affected however some districts of midhill region have also been affected by the fire. Due to lack of proper management of fires as well as dense settlement and poor construction of houses in terms of fire vulnerability (especially made by bamboo and straw) are main reason behind the increased vulnerability of fire in Terai region. According to reports received from the district chapters, altogether seven people lost their lives, thirteen have been injured, 946 families have been affected out of which 835 families have been displaced from their original location due to fire outbreak. The report shows 1084 houses are fully destroyed and 21 are partially destroyed from the fire incident.
