Brief description of the situation
KRCS teams have supported rapid assessments, search and rescue, evacuation, restoration of family links to the affected in Nyanza, Tana River and Kajiado areas. Other interventions include distribution of Non–Food Items (NFIs), household water purification chemicals, insecticide treated mosquito nets and health education. The immediate interventions were conducted based on rapid assessments conducted in collaboration with the Government, Non Governmental Organizations and media working in the affected areas.
With this DREF operation, KRCS intends to continue the search and rescue services and tracing of missing persons in affected high risk areas. Furthermore, KRCS will provide emergency shelter to displaced and evacuated families, and continue the NFI distribution activities provide safe drinking water to the affected families, improve sanitary conditions, and promote hygiene awareness. KRCS also intends to support the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation (MoPHS) in meeting basic health care needs through basic clinical services and preventive care to the affected families. The KRCS teams will also carry out health promotion and disease prevention campaigns focusing on diarrheal diseases, dengue fever and malaria in the displaced camps and immediately after resettlement due to the deteriorated general hygiene conditions.
