Since the last update The fire at Forcett further developed across the Tasman Peninsula, with the entire peninsula isolated by road closures at Eaglehawk neck. A Forcett fire refuge is operating at Sorell (please note that “refuge” in this instance does not mean refuge of last resort – they are operating more like evacuation centres).
As of 5/1/13, plans ware underway to evacuate up to 3,000 people from the Tasman Peninsula to Hobart Town Hall. Red Cross personnel will attend the Town Hall and possible travel on the boats with the evacuees to provide psychological first aid as required.
Victoria has set up a State Inquiry Centre in support of Tasmania, to take registrations from affected people and inquiries from friends and loved ones.
There is a significant community recovery situation unfolding on the Tasman Peninsula which will be reported on over the next few days as the situation becomes clearer.
A further 30 smaller fires were reported by Tasmanian Fie Service around the state.
A team from Queensland was deployed this morning to support the Red Cross Incident Managemnet team in Tasmania over the next few days.Further planning is being undertaken to support the event for at least the next 7 days.
