Brief description of the situation
On the 7 March 2013 at 5 pm, fire broke out in an IDP settlement camp in Hargeisa called “state house”, burning down makeshift shelters. Household items including food, utensils, clothing and blankets belonging to the IDPs were completely destroyed in the fire and 103 persons were made homeless.
Fortunately no death or injuries were reported as a result of the fire due to swift action and response from the local population and agencies including Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS). The cause of the fire has also not been established but it is suspected to have started in one of the households.
